A little place trying to be a big place

Slovenia is an Eastern European country stuck in Western Europe. Or vice versa. You know, the whole image one gets from Hollywood movies showing husky broad-shouldered broads, crooked teeth and cancerous saggy skin. Yet I have yet to see any of those. And then there’s the other image, with pimps and prostitutes. And I’ve yet to see those either. Though there is this saying that Slovene (or Eastern European women for that matter) are “easy.” It goes, “so young, and already Slovene.” Which means what you make of it.

The atmosphere in any college town, like any other college town, is the same. Students, alcohol and partying. Though, unfortunately for here, they have really poor beer. But really, what it is like here is a little place trying to be a big place.

Today I deleted my feeds. All of them.

I had had enough of it. Too much GTD in my feeds, too many feeds gone stale. Even with a spring cleaning when shifting from Bloglines to Google Reader, it wasn’t working for me. Especially when Reader starting show my unsubscribed subscriptions (can I call them that?), and this week Reader burst at the seams by adding my my unsubscribed subscriptions inback my sidebar, and scrambling the tags on some recent subscriptions.

Enough is enough, so I deleted everything. Fairly simple in Reader with ‘select all,’ though with Bloglines I had to diligently work my way down my hundreds of subscriptions. Until I discovered shift-select.

There I have it, my two feed aggregators are virgin again.

After years of accumulated feeds, what will feed me now? I’ll get to start looking at websites again, even though the current state of web design is barely that. But thats another topic. I’ll start with subscribing to feeds I want to read. More news, fewer views. And definitely fewer link blogs. Time to discover the web for myself. Bye bye kottke’s remaindered links. Hello virgin web.

Oh, I did export my xml and opmls!

Update: Now the dilemna is, Bloglines or Google Reader? After many months of Reader, is it time to shift back to the more reliable (in my experience) Bloglines, or can I not survive without infinite scroll?
